Daytona International Speedway Raises $150,000 for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation at First of Four National Events

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) was honored during a special firefighter appreciation and fundraising event at the 53rd running of the Dayton 500 on Sunday, February 20, 2011. More than 800 firefighters and 47 survivors of those who died in the line of duty attended Fire Hero Racing, joining thousands of NASCAR fans at the first race of the 2011 season.

The event was kicked off by Florida's Pipe's and Drum Bands. NASCAR drivers Jeff Burton, who drives the 31 car for Richard Childress Racing and Aric Almirola, number 88 of JR Motorsports, greeted the attendees. "It was a great day for the Foundation and the families we serve as well as a great day for racing," said Chief Ronald J. Siarnicki, executive director of the NFFF. "Everyone had a good time and was happy to support such a worthwhile cause."

Daytona International Speedway presented a check for $150,000 to the Foundation which was made possible by the generous contributions of numerous corporate sponsors, including: Star & Shield Insurance, Motorola, Amkus, Arctic Ease, Waterous Company, Air Methods, Silvertowne Mint, Weinbrenner Shoe Company, American Fire Training Systems, Savatech, Government Services Group, and Fail-Safe.

This was the first of four national fundraising events this year to support the programs and services provided by the Foundation and to honor our nation's firefighters. For more information about upcoming Fire Hero Racing events, visit www.fireheroracing.com.
